An Analyst Turned Artist
Christopher Castle is a self taught ceramicist based in Newport Beach, California who has spent the past four years exploring the world of texture and shape through the medium of clay.
His journey into ceramics began after he started his career as a financial analyst. He signed up for a ‘Throw a Bowl’ class as a way to get out of the house and touch something besides a keyboard. The grounding properties of moving and shaping clay quickly helped Chris find balance within his personal and professional interests while continuing to challenge himself on both analytical and artistic fronts.
Although the wheel was his first love, Chris has found the greatest gratification through the free-form style of ceramics known as hand building. His style draws inspiration from the every day textures he encounters at the beach, on hikes, or most recently, from the corals in his saltwater reef tank.
